The COGS (Configurable Optimized Gas Chromatograph Sample System) is a modular, patent-pending sample conditioning system designed specifically for gas chromatograph (GC) applicationsโsuch as natural gas custody transferโwhere reliable sample conditioning is critical. The system is designed to integrate with leading GC platforms without being tied to a specific analyzer manufacturer. Built from precision-machined nickel-plated aluminum blocks, COGS provides clean, dry, and pressure-regulated samples with minimal delay and maximum reliability.
The system is available in three configurationsโTypes 3, 4, and 5โeach tailored for different combinations of sample, calibration, and carrier gas control. Its modular architecture supports easy installation, maintenance, and full block replacement, minimizing downtime.
Components mount to standard strut or an optional bracket compatible with pipe-mounted analyzers, making it ideal for both new installations and retrofit applications. This flexibility allows seamless integration with a wide range of GC platforms used across the industry.
At the heart of the sample conditioning module is a 2"/50mm membrane filter with proprietary internal geometry, delivering superior particulate and liquid removal with fast response. The sample module includes an inlet isolation ball valve, a filter drain/bypass loop with rotameter, a 0โ25 psig pressure regulator with gauge, and a fast-loop rotameter to ensure fresh sample delivery to the GC.
For applications requiring upstream liquid detection or protection, integrating a Liquids Carryover Sensor can further enhance system reliability and analyzer protection.
The Type 3 configuration adds a Carrier Gas Module, featuring dual-cylinder auto switch-over with offset pressure regulators, isolation and spring-return purge valves, a 0โ100 psig carrier gas regulator with gauge, and a pressure relief valve set at 110 psig.
Type 3 and 4 configurations include a Calibration Gas Module with a 3-way calibration/validation selector valve, downstream spring-return purge valve, 0โ25 psig regulator, and calibration relief (Type 3 only).
COGS combines the benefits of traditional and SP76/NeSSI systems while eliminating drawbacks such as complex tubing and leak-prone fittings. Fewer o-ring Swagelok connections, no NPT threads, and integrated flow paths result in a compact, cost-effective system thatโs easier to maintain and more reliable.
For NeSSI-based installations or modular probe integration, the NeSSI Probe provides a flexible platform for mounting sample system components closer to the process.
With optional accessories like the Regulator Panel, Mounting Bracket, and Vent Block, COGS adapts easily to a wide range of analyzer installations. Its rugged build, superior filtration, fast response, and modularity make it the ideal GC sample conditioning system for demanding field applications, regardless of analyzer manufacturer.
For full sampling system integration, pairing with the Sample Distribution Panel can improve sample routing efficiency across multiple analyzers or sample points.
Designed for long-term performance, COGS reduces maintenance requirements through simplified design and high-quality materials. Its compact footprint and integrated flow paths reduce installation complexity while improving response time and system reliability.
